Elm Surgery Patient Participation Group Report
During October 2011 a decision was taken to form a virtual patient participation group. The patient participation group is made up of patients who regularly make contact with the surgery via email. Invitations to join the patient participation group were sent to a selection of patients. Patients were selected to make the patient participation group representative of a cross section of the surgeries patients e.g. by age, sex, patients with young children, patients suffering from chronic illness etc.
During October 2011 an invitation was sent to patients to join the participation group with a questionnaire designed to identify practice issues which had priority and were to be included in the practice patient survey. The questionnaire covered issues such as ease of contacting the practice, ease of contacting clinicians, the patient waiting area, cleanliness of the practice, helpfulness of staff etc. Twelve members of the patient participation group responded by completing the questionnaire.
During November 2011 a patient survey was issued to patients visiting the practice over a three week period. The survey was designed to test the views of a wider range of patients on the priorities identified by the patient participation group.
